Advance: Innovation & Research Award winner
On January 26, 2026, the Austin AI Alliance recognized its first-ever collection of AI Excellence Award winners — organizations and individuals who are shaping the region’s AI ecosystem with intention, responsibility, and impact. The honors were presented at the State of AI in Austin event, which brought together business leaders, researchers, educators, and innovators to reflect on how artificial intelligence is transforming Central Texas and where the ecosystem is headed next.
The awards spotlight leaders and organizations who are not only advancing AI capabilities but also demonstrating how the technology can be deployed in ways that strengthen communities, expand opportunity, and keep people at the center of innovation. In all, five organizations and one individual leader were recognized for translating AI innovation into real-world impact across research, workforce development, ethical practice, community benefit, and individual leadership.
Strong AI ecosystems begin with strong research foundations, and Texas State University is playing a pivotal role in providing such foundations in Central Texas.
Recognized with the Advance: Innovation & Research Award, Texas State has demonstrated how academic leadership can accelerate both discovery and real-world application. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and faculty engagement, the university is ensuring that AI research is not siloed, but integrated across programs, industries, and workforce pathways.
In a recent National Science Foundation–funded initiative, Texas State mobilized more than 40 faculty members and engaged between 900 and 1,100 learners, significantly expanding access to AI education and research participation. The program strengthened AI fluency across disciplines while building durable infrastructure for continued innovation. The impact extended well beyond the classroom: the initiative helped catalyze multiple subsequent federal grants, positioning the university as a growing center of gravity for AI research and funding.
This work reflects a broader institutional commitment, connecting research to regional development, workforce readiness, and industry collaboration. Faculty and students are not only advancing technical capabilities but also exploring the ethical, societal, and operational implications of emerging AI systems.
