SUMMARY:2026 Gateway Happy Hour
DESCRIPTION:Kick off SXSW with the Austin Technology Council’s annual GATEWAY HAPPY HOUR – Monday\, March 9th. 5:30 – 7:30. Woody’s Bar. For over 20 years the Austin Technology Council has hosted a party for our local tech community in the days before the world comes to Austin for SXSW. This is a “Good Old Fashioned High Tech Happy Hour”…. the kind that got everything started in Austin in the 1990s. \nWhile out of town techies are always welcome\, this party is purposely held before the crowds arrive to bring the focus on people who come from all areas of our tech ecosystem. This year we will also have the CEO’s of about 20 other Technology Councils\, as the Technology Council’s of North America organization is having their annual CEO Summit in Austin March 9-11. Thus we have invited them all to come see Austin Tech in our natural environment. \nFor more information please visit: https://www.austintechnologycouncil.org/event/2026-gateway-happy-hour/.

SUMMARY:ATC April Roundtable Breakfast
DESCRIPTION:Humans + AI: Building Teams that Outthink\, not just Outperform\nNavigating the Intersection of Human Intent and AI Agency (The Workplace Angle). In an era of “tool overload\,” leaders face a high-stakes balancing act between driving efficiency and preserving the human ingenuity that defines their brand. This session provides a roadmap for managers to integrate agentic AI without eroding team morale or sacrificing critical thinking.\n\nClosing Takeaway\n“The goal of AI integration isn’t to remove the human from the loop\, but to elevate the human to a higher loop.” The audience should leave understanding that the “right choice” isn’t about which tool has the best API\, but which tool reinforces their team’s sense of agency and expertise rather than replacing it.\n\nSpeaker: Sridhar Sudarsan\n\nSridhar Sudarsan\, Chief AI Strategist at EX Squared\, is a distinguished technologist\, executive leader\, entrepreneur\, investor\, and AI futurist\, currently serving as the founder of an advisory practice helping organizations deploy AI at scale and drive transformational business outcomes. SUMMARY:AI Video Production and Digital Twins
DESCRIPTION:AI Video Production and Digital Twins\nVideo production used to mean equipment\, editing software with a learning curve\, and the uncomfortable reality of being on camera. AI has changed all three. This 3.5 hour class shows you exactly how\, and gives you hands-on time with the tools that are making it happen.\nUsing NotebookLM\, Riverside\, Descript\, and HeyGen\, you’ll move through a complete production workflow live in class: turning research into a script\, recording and editing footage\, and generating finished video with an AI avatar you build yourself. You’ll leave understanding not just what these tools do\, but how they connect and why that matters for anyone who creates content.\n\n\nWhat You’ll Be Able to Do\n\nTransform documents\, research\, or rough notes into a ready-to-record video script using NotebookLM\nRecord clean\, professional footage from any location using Riverside. No studio required.\nEdit video in Descript by editing text. Cut filler\, remove stumbles\, and tighten your message without touching a timeline.\nProduce faceless explainer-style video without ever appearing on camera\nBuild your own AI avatar in HeyGen and generate a finished video with it\, live\, in class\n\n\nWhat Makes These Session Different\nAI has enabled a new generation of video tools that not only make production faster\, they make it look easy. Most video tools make production faster. These tools make it fundamentally different. NotebookLM eliminates the blank page. Descript eliminates the timeline. HeyGen eliminates the on-camera requirement entirely. Together\, they represent a new model for how video gets made: one person\, no crew\, a fraction of the cost.\n\n\nWho It’s For\nMarketers\, educators\, founders\, and communicators who need to produce video content but haven’t found a process that fits how they actually work. No video experience required.\n\n\nBefore You Arrive\nA little setup ahead of time means more building and less waiting on class day. \n Required: \n\nA charged laptop (phones and tablets won’t work for this)\nA topic in mind\, something you’d genuinely want to make a video about\nA Google account (for NotebookLM)\nFree accounts created at: Riverside.fm\, Descript.com\, and HeyGen.com\n\nNo video production experience required. A willingness to make something real in under four hours: required. \n\n \nNeed-Based Scholarships Available\n\n \n\nWhile refunds are not available\, we’re committed to making this accessible. A limited number of scholarships are available for individuals who would not otherwise be able to attend. If cost is a barrier\, please reach out to us at info@austin-ai.org to learn more. \n \nA special thanks to our host and alliance member SKG. \n\n\n\n\nAbout the instructor:\nSteve Mudd is the CEO of Talentless AI\, an AI-native creative studio based in Austin. A 2026 AI Leadership Award winner from the Austin AI Alliance\, Steve is a writer\, filmmaker\, and AI practitioner who has built production workflows using tools like HeyGen\, Descript\, Riverside\, and NotebookLM for brands and studios. He currently serves as an AI Expert for B2B Marketing’s Propolis community\, and his AI content has generated over 10 million views across TikTok\, LinkedIn\, and YouTube. He runs AI bootcamps\, coaching sessions\, and hands-on workshops that help marketers\, educators\, and creators adopt AI tools into their actual work.

SUMMARY:Podcast Lab: Mastering the Modern Tech Stack for Production & Growth
DESCRIPTION:Podcasting about technology moves fast\, and keeping your production quality high while staying consistent can feel like a full-time job. This isn’t a sit-and-listen presentation—it’s a high-utility meetup for Austin’s podcasting community to swap notes on the best gear\, software\, and distribution strategies available right now. We are gathering to bridge the gap between “great ideas” and “great content” by sharing the workflows that actually save time and grow audiences. \nMeetup Flow \n1. Pro Perspectives: “The Minimalist vs. The Studio” (15 mins) \nTo kick things off\, two experienced Austin podcasters will briefly share their contrasting setups: \n\n\nThe “Run & Gun” Setup: Using the latest portable hardware (like the RØDECaster Video or Shure MoveMic) to capture high-fidelity tech interviews anywhere. \n\n\nThe “AI-Enhanced” Workflow: A look at how software—from Descript’s latest updates to Captions.ai—is being used to bridge the gap between raw audio and a polished\, multi-platform presence. \n\n\n2. Open “Tech Swap” & Roundtable (50 mins) \nThis is the core of the meeting. SUMMARY:Data Centers:  The Good\, The Bad and The Ugly
DESCRIPTION:Join the Austin AI Alliance and the Austin Forum on Technology and Society for a town hall on the realities\, risks\, and rewards of AI infrastructure. This event is in person only. \nEvery time you query an AI model\, stream a video\, or use a cloud app\, you’re relying on a massive\, invisible engine: the modern data center. As our demand for computing power grows\, so does the footprint\, the grid strain\, and the resources needed to keep it all running. Data centers are essential to the AI revolution and they’re driving real progress for business\, healthcare\, education\, and daily life. But they also raise real questions about our energy grid\, our water supply\, and our communities. \nThe Austin Forum’s July 7 presentation covered the technology\, costs\, and impacts of data centers\, and the questions kept coming long after the panel ran out of time. The conversation kept going on LinkedIn too\, with professionals from Austin and beyond weighing in. So on August 19\, we’re back for round two\, and this time\, it’s your turn to lead the discussion. \nThis isn’t another panel talking at you. It’s an extended\, moderated town hall built for community members\, tech leaders\, policymakers\, and environmental advocates to talk with each other. Whether you’ve got a concern\, a success story\, a hard question\, or an idea worth testing\, this is your platform. We’ll dig into the tough stuff and celebrate what’s working\, all in a format built for real conversation\, not just presentation. \n\nWe’ll confront the hard truths first. A moderator will lead grid analysts\, environmental policy experts\, and local leaders through the real risks that dense data center development poses to the ERCOT grid\, local water tables\, neighborhood livability\, and utility rates. No spin\, just the numbers and the tradeoffs. \n Then we’ll look at what’s working. The same group of experts will walk through the architectures proving that data centers don’t have to be a drain on their host communities: closed-loop thermal cooling\, on-site power generation\, and designs quiet and dark enough that neighbors barely notice they’re there. These low-footprint facilities aren’t just less harmful\, they can actually help stabilize the grid and ease pressure on ratepayers. \n\n\nThe goal is practical clarity. Attendees will leave with a real understanding of the tradeoffs at play and the tools to guide better policy\, smarter planning\, and informed advocacy across Central Texas and the state\, positioning the region as a leader in responsible AI infrastructure rather than a cautionary tale. \n\n\n \nCome ready to share on four fronts: \n\nSuccess stories – How is AI\, powered by data centers\, already making things better in your work or your life?\nReal concerns – What worries you about grid reliability\, water use\, land development\, or the bigger picture?\nBurning questions – What do you want straight answers on\, from the numbers to the timelines to the tech itself?\nConstructive ideas – How can Austin and the broader tech community balance the need for computing power with real responsibility to our resources?\n\nWe’ll also draw the line between the data centers doing this right and the ones doing it wrong. Some facilities are straining the ERCOT grid\, draining local water tables\, and driving up utility rates for everyone nearby. Others are proving there’s a better way\, with closed-loop cooling\, on-site power generation\, and designs that barely make a sound or cast a light. This event will help you tell the difference\, and understand why it matters for Austin’s future as a leader in responsible AI growth. \nYou’ll leave with a clearer picture of where things stand\, some real resources to take with you\, and new ideas to bring back to your own team or community. \nStick around after. The conversation continues right after the event at Remedy (3rd & Nueces) for networking and a complimentary drink\, courtesy of Austin Forum Annual Partners\, Champions\, and Friends. \nPlease register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-data-center-dialogue-a-community-town-hall-on-ai-infrastructure-tickets-1995107588504.   \n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mark Strama\, Director of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Mark is the Director of the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life\, and a Professor of Practice in the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas. His work also explores the role of grid interconnections\, distributed energy resources\, and utility- and distributed-scale energy storage systems in future grid development scenarios. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Stan Kitzman\, State Representative \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n State Representative Stan Kitzman represents Texas House District 85\, a critical rural and suburban corridor encompassing Austin\, Colorado\, Fayette\, Waller\, Wharton\, and parts of Fort Bend counties. Hailing from Pattison in Waller County and rooted as a sixth-generation Texan descended from Stephen F. Austin’s “Old Three Hundred\,” Representative Kitzman represents a vast geography defined by major resource arteries\, including the Brazos\, San Bernard\, and Colorado river basins. As commercial development and digital infrastructure expand across the state\, his district sits at the direct intersection of regional growth\, critical natural resources\, and agricultural heritage. \n In the Texas Legislature\, Representative Kitzman has emerged as a central leader on resource policy\, power reliability\, and resource management. He serves on the House Agriculture and Livestock Committee\, the House Appropriations Committee (where he chairs the Article III subcommittee)\, and the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission. Demonstrating his focus on utility and conservation planning\, he was chosen by his colleagues to chair the bi-cameral Water Caucus\, serves as a Texas representative to the Energy Council\, and sits on the board of the Texas Water Conservation Association. Throughout his legislative tenure\, he has been a vocal advocate for the long-term future of Texas water security\, energy grid resilience\, and the protection of production agriculture.

SUMMARY:Beyond the Prototype II: Human Guidance and Self-Improving AIs
DESCRIPTION:Build the AI agent that does useful work\, grades itself\, and gets better without becoming a corporate liability.\nMost AI “agents” are just chatbots with a LinkedIn headline. They produce something once\, nobody checks whether it was any good\, and the whole thing quietly becomes another tab you stop opening. \nThis is the antidote. \nBeyond the Prototype II: Self-Recursive Agents is a three-hour\, hands-on build session for operators who are done admiring demos and ready to put AI to work. You will build a real\, useful agent around a task that matters to your day job: researching a market\, drafting content\, summarizing inbox traffic\, preparing a customer brief\, or another workflow you actually want off your plate. \nThen we make it smarter. Your agent will evaluate the quality of its own output\, propose a specific improvement\, test that improvement against a benchmark\, and adopt the new version only if it beats the old one. That is the difference between an AI trick and an operational system. \nThis is the longer\, deeper sequel to Mario Facussé’s popular first Austin AI Alliance session on self-recursive agents. The original session opened the hood. This one hands you the wrench\, keeps the theory on a short leash\, and gives you three focused hours to build. You do not need to be technical. You do need to be willing to stop outsourcing your operational leverage to a pile of prompts and wishful thinking. \nThe promise: You will leave with a working recursive agent and a practical operating model for improving it safely—without having to babysit every output\, every prompt\, or every “clever” idea the model has at 2:00 AM. \nWhat You’ll be Able to Walk Away With\n\nTurn a real business problem into an agent with a job description. You will define one useful task\, specify what “good” looks like\, and build a working agent that produces an output you can use—not a generic demo that dies the moment you get back to work.\nGive your agent a quality-control brain. You will add a self-evaluation layer and a small set of “golden tasks” so the agent can judge its output\, identify weaknesses\, and propose a targeted improvement rather than simply generating more confident nonsense.\nBuild a safe improvement loop that earns autonomy. You will implement a simplified recursive cycle: generate\, evaluate\, improve\, test\, and deploy only when the candidate version passes. You will also leave with guardrails that stop regressions from sneaking into production wearing a tiny AI trench coat.\n\nWhat Makes This Session Different\n\nYou build the machine; you do not watch Mario build it. This is not a keynote with tasteful screenshots and a QR code leading to disappointment. The session is deliberately designed for hands-on progress\, with clear checkpoints and a usable result by the end.\nIt teaches the part most AI workshops skip: safe self-improvement. Anyone can prompt a model. Few people know how to make an agent learn from failures\, test its own changes\, and reject a “better” version when the evidence says it is worse. That is the useful bit.\nIt translates production-grade agent design into operator language. Mario will distill the same ideas behind his ATLAS system—adaptive refinement\, self-evolving learning\, autonomous validation\, trust tiers\, regression gates\, and benchmark testing—into a version you can understand\, build\, and extend without a computer-science degree or a spiritual relationship with YAML (Yet Another Markup Language).\n\nWho it is for\n\nAmbitious executives\, managers\, and operators who are responsible for outcomes\, buried under repetitive work\, and tired of hearing that AI is “transformative” without seeing what to do on Monday morning.\nNo-code and low-code business builders who want to move beyond one-off prompts and create an AI system that can improve a repeatable business task while maintaining sensible human oversight.\n\nBefore you arrive\n\nBring one process you would happily fire from your calendar. Choose a repetitive\, judgment-heavy task that takes at least 30 minutes each week: research\, content drafting\, account preparation\, inbox triage\, meeting summaries\, competitive monitoring\, or a similar workflow. If it is annoying and measurable\, it is a strong candidate.\nComplete the short setup checklist sent before the event. Arrive with your laptop charged and your selected tools/accounts ready to use. The checklist will be intentionally simple; its only purpose is to ensure you spend the session building\, not negotiating with a forgotten password reset link.\n\nInstructor Bio\nMario Facussé is the Managing Director of MEF Solutions\, a consulting firm helping private equity operating teams identify high-value bottlenecks and solve them with agentic swarms. He hdesigns self-evolving agent systems that move beyond the prototype phase: systems that handle business work\, measure their own quality\, learn from mistakes\, and earn greater autonomy through evidence rather than hype. \nMario’s ATLAS system coordinates more than ten specialized AI agents across business functions\, from content creation and financial analysis to infrastructure monitoring. Its operating model combines adaptive prompt refinement\, self-evolving learning\, autonomous validation\, capability-based trust tiers\, regression gates\, and golden-task benchmarks—because an agent that changes itself without a test is not autonomous; it is unsupervised. \nHe has spoken at Austin AI Alliance and Comms Week\, and he advises enterprise teams on turning AI experiments into production-grade systems that produce measurable work. Mario’s approach is direct: show the machine\, prove the outcome\, then scale what works. Connect with him on LinkedIn.

SUMMARY:Agentic Research Systems
DESCRIPTION:Most AI tools answer one question at a time. In this 3-hour workshop you will design a multi-step research system — a reusable workflow that helps you find\, evaluate\, and apply information across the real-world projects you are already working on. By the end of the session you will have a working first draft of your own.\nWhat You’ll Learn\n\nThe difference between asking AI a question and designing a research system — and why the second one compounds the more you use it\nHow AI inherits the biases of the web it was trained on — and what to do about it in your own workflow\nA plain-English framework for judging credibility — recency\, authority\, evidence\, relevance\nThe vocabulary you actually need: just-in-time help\, multi-step AI helpers\, triangulation\, automation bias\nHow to wire credibility checks into your workflow so you trust what comes out\n\nWhat You’ll Build\nIn the 90-minute hands-on lab\, you will: \n\nPick one real research problem you actually have — a topic you track\, a brief you write\, a class of question you answer over and over\nMap it into a 3–5 step research system: what to pull\, where to cross-check\, how to flag uncertainty\nTest it with a small data set you bring — your PDFs\, URLs\, notes\nLeave with an MVP workflow and a roadmap for taking it further\n\n\nWhat You’ll Leave With\nYou will leave with a tool agnostic contextual documentation that will allow one to continue learning/developing reliable human + ai research capability no matter what tool prevails: \n\n\none defined research “problem” unique to personal context/needs with 90 day roadmap on how to increase effectiveness and productivity\neducation on how to context engineer foundations for multi-agent systems beyond the session\nAAIA help resources and contacts for system development best practices (people to reach out to when uncertainty/ambiguity becomes overwhelming)\n\nWe will use Austin AI Alliance’s own live research program as one teaching case throughout — but everything you build is yours\, on your own topic. \nWho It’s For\n\nAI-curious folks who have used Claude\, ChatGPT\, Gemini\, or Perplexity once and want to go further\nAnalysts\, researchers\, and consultants who do recurring intelligence work\nCivic\, economic-development\, and policy professionals who need defensible source trails\nBuilders and operators evaluating where to invest their AI time\n\nNo build experience required. If you have used one LLM tool\, you are qualified. \nBefore You Arrive\nRequired: \n\nLaptop (any modern OS; nothing to install)\nActive accounts on at least two of: Claude\, ChatGPT\, Gemini\, Perplexity (free tiers are fine)\nOne real research problem or recurring task you would like to work on live\nA small folder of unstructured material — 3–10 PDFs\, URLs\, or text files — related to that problem\n\nFormat\n\nThe first 60 mins will be educational with a discussion about why/how/where agentic research workflows fall short. The  next 30 mins will be hands on foundational around context engineering and defining research “problem definition” and “desired outcomes” that research “agent” will work towards. One short break. The remaining 90 mins will be a hands on “onboarding” research agent + testing + MVP workflow design + setting up feedback loops. Q&A at the end.\n\n \nAbout the instructor: Larry Allen\nAI is disrupting everything. Trust still builds everything. Larry operates at the intersection by bridging emerging technology with proven B2B partnership fundamentals\, helping organizations navigate change while staying connected to authentic value creation. He has facilitated AI literacy and adoption across all scales: enabling individuals to get the most out of their tools\, helping startups integrate AI workflows\, and guiding SMBs through strategic implementation without losing their core values. Larry synthesizes complexity into strategic clarity that drives measurable outcomes.
